Okea ASA will continue to assess the possibility of migration of petroleum and prospectivity for the Rogn formation in the Norwegian Sea after drilling appraisal well 6407/9-12 on the Skumnisse prospect northeast of Draugen field. The well is dry. Core data have been acquired. Wireline log data form the rest of the data acquisition program. The well will be plugged.

The first exploration well in PL 093 D, 6407/9-12 was drilled by Odfjell Drilling Ltd.’s Deepsea Nordkapp dynamically positioned harsh-environment semisubmersible drilling rig 6 km northeast of the Draugen platform in the southern part of the Norwegian Sea some 125 km north of Kristiansund to a vertical depth of 1,742 m subsea. It was terminated in the Garn formation in the Middle Jurassic. Water depth at the site is 243 m.

The field was proved in 1984 in Middle to Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Garn and Rogn formation) and started production in 1993. The objective of the well was to further delineate the field toward the east in the Rogn formation.

The well encountered the Rogn formation in about 45 m, whereof several thin clay-rich sandstone layers totaling 15 m with poor reservoir quality. The reservoir rocks contain no traces of petroleum.

The Deepsea Nordkapp will now continue drilling a development well on Skogul field in the central part of the North Sea, where Aker BP ASA is operator.

The well concludes Okea’s first operated drilling campaign, less than a year after the company took over operatorship of Draugen (OGJ Online, June 20, 2018). The two wells were based on a slim, two casing string design.

Okea is operator of Draugen licenses PL093 and PL093 D with 44.56%. Partners are Petoro AS, 47.88%, and Neptune Energy Norge AS, 7.56%.
