DNO drills dry hole in southern North Sea
DNO Norge AS drilled a dry well in the Page prospect in the southern part of the North Sea. The well was drilled in production license (PL) 1086, where the 2/6-7 S Othello oil discovery was made last year.
Wildcat well 2/6-8 S and technical sidetrack 2/6-8 ST2 were drilled about 270 km from Stavanger, Norway, and 40 km from Ekofisk in 55 m of water by the Noble Intrepid jackup rig, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate said in a release Nov. 18.
The objective of the well was to prove oil in Palaeocene reservoir rocks in the Borr Member in the Våle formation. Well 2/6-8 S was drilled to a vertical depth of 1,715 m before it was plugged due to the unstable hole.
Sidetrack 2/6-8 ST2 was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,981 m subsea. It was terminated in the Ekofisk formation from the Palaeocene.
The well encountered the Våle and Ekofisk formations as expected, but the Borr Member was only represented by thin sandstone layers. The well is classified as dry with hydrocarbon shows in the Våle and Ekofisk formations.
A 45-m core was taken in the Våle and Ekofisk formations, and pressure data and fluid samples were also collected in the Ekofisk formation. The well will be permanently.
DNO is operator at PL1086 (50%) with partners Petoro AS (20%), Aker BP ASA (20%), and Source Energy AS (10%).
