Aker BP’s Norwegian Sea Bounty Updip prospect comes up dry
Aker BP ASA drilled a dry well in the Bounty Updip prospect in the Norwegian Sea.
Wildcat well 6306/6-3 S, the second in production license 886, was drilled using the Scarabeo 8 drilling rig to a vertical depth of 1,607 m subsea. It was terminated in basement rock.
The objective of the well, which lies on the Frøya High, 30 km south of Vår Energi ASA-operated Fenja field in water depth of 213 m, was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Rogn formation.
The well encountered the formation totaling 74 m, 70 m of which was sandstone layers with good to very good reservoir quality. The well has been plugged.
Aker BP is operator of the license with 60% interest. Partners are ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS (20%) and Petoro AS (20%).
