Aker BP encountered a dry hole in the first exploration well in production license 932 in the northern part of the North Sea.

Well 34/6-7 S (Kaldafjell) was drilled by the Deepsea Nordkapp rig, about 40 km north of Equinor Energy-operated Visund field to a vertical depth of 4,472 m subsea. It was terminated in the Burton formation in the Lower Jurassic.

The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Cook formation. The well encountered the Cook formation in a total of around 117 m of reservoir rocks, 90 m of which were sandstone with moderate to good reservoir quality.

Water depth at the site is 403 m. The well has been plugged.

Aker BP is operator of the license with 40% interest. Partners are Equinor Energy AS (40%) and Vår Energi ASA (20%).
