Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) reached the main target of its Uchuva-2 well in Colombia, confirming extension of the gas discovery made in 2022 and reinforcing potential for gas in the region.
The Uchuva-2 well was spudded on June 19, about 31 km off the coast at a water depth of 804 m (OGJ Online, June 21, 2024). The appraisal well was drilled to learn more about the area following the natural gas discovery at Uchuva-1 in deep waters about 76 km from the city of Santa Marta (OGJ Online, June 29, 2022).
The well is in progress, with five phases, and the gas-bearing interval was verified at phase 4 through wireline logging, which will be further characterized through laboratory analyses, the company said in a release Aug. 5.
The company is continuing operations to drill the well to the expected depth and characterize the conditions of the reservoirs found. A formation text is expected to be carried out by yearend.
Petrobras is operator of the Tayrona block with 44.44% working interest. Ecopetrol holds the remaining 55.56%.
