HOUSTON, May 11 -- Talisman Energy Inc. and WesternZagros Resources Ltd. have spud a second exploration well in Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Kurdamir-1 is expected to go to TD 4,000 m and cost $35-40 million. It will incorporate lessons the Calgary firms learned at the first well, Sarqala-1, including an intermediate casing string. Kurdamir-1 is 30 km northeast of Sarqala-1 on a separate structure.
Four formations are to be tested: the Tertiary Oligocene and Pilaspi/Jaddala intervals and the Cretaceous Shiranish and Upper Qamchuaqa intervals.
