HOUSTON, July 28 – Canacol Energy Ltd., Calgary, let a contract to Saxon Services de Panama to drill three wells at its operated Rancho Hermoso and Entrerios fields in Colombia’s Llanos basin starting in early August 2009.
Drilling of the Rancho Hermoso-3A, Entrerios-5, and Rancho Hermoso-5 wells is to be completed by late November 2009. The program also includes perforating behind pipe oil reservoirs and commingling at three existing wells.
Entrerrios-5 will test the Cretaceous Mirador and Ubaque reservoirs along a prominent southwest structural extension of the field identified on 3D seismic in 2008.
Meanwhile, Canacol Energy shot 46 sq km of 3D seismic on its operated La Sierra E&P contract area in the Middle Magdalena basin. Results are to be used to drill an exploration well in the first quarter of 2010. The 1992 La Sierra-1 oil discovery recovered 23 bbl of 17° gravity oil from 10 ft of Tertiary Honda net pay at 1,700 ft measured depth.
