Eni confirms extension of Cronos gas discovery
Eni SPA completed the Cronos-2 well in Block 6 offshore Cyprus and confirmed the extension of the Cronos gas discovery.
Cronos-2 was drilled about 160 km southwest of the Cyprus coast to confirm the lateral extension of the Cronos gas discovery (with Cronos 1 exploration well) about 3 km away, and to assess the reservoir characteristics by performing a production test.
The well encountered the same carbonate reservoir sequence as Cronos-1, confirming hydraulic communication and connected thick gas column with excellent permeability intervals. Cronos-2 encountered several carbonate reservoir intervals with a net reservoir thickness of 115 m. The extended production test estimated a well capacity of more than 150 MMscfd.
Cronos-2 is the fourth well drilled by Eni in Block 6, following the gas discoveries of Calypso in 2018 and Cronos and Zeus in 2022 (OGJ Online, Feb. 9, 2018; Aug. 22, 2022).
Eni Cyprus is operator of Block 6 with 50% interest. TotalEnergies holds the remaining 50%.
