Tethys Oil continues Block 56 testing onshore Oman
Tethys Oil Oman Onshore Ltd. continues to compile data on Block 56 onshore Oman as part of field development plan preparations for the 5,808-sq km block.
The company completed drilling of the Menna-1 exploration well and will resume testing of Sarha-3 on the block, about 30 km southwest of the Al Jumd discovery. The plan, once completed, will in turn serve as the basis for the commercialization of the block, the company said.
Menna-1 was drilled vertically to a total depth of about 1,600 m. Well logs indicate hydrocarbons in the Al Khlata, Karim, and Birba formations. Further evaluation and testing of the well will be carried out in the coming weeks.
Testing operations will also resume on the Sarha-3 well, on which a workover has been completed. Sarha-3 was drilled in 2022 and is on the Eastern Flank trend about 7 km northeast of Menna. The well had a final depth of 1,200 m and targeted the Gharif, Al Khlata and Karim formations. Well logs indicated hydrocarbons in all targets.
Initial testing included the Karim formation, from which limited oil flows to surface were recorded. The resumed testing operations will focus on establishing oil flows to surface from the remaining two zones, Al Khlata and Gharif.
Block 56 lies in the southeastern part of Oman about 200 km south of Blocks 3 and 4. The central area of the block is estimated to hold about 50 million bbl of unrisked resources.
In total, the Eastern Flank trend currently has more than a dozen prospects and leads that have not yet matured into prospects. A full prospect and lead inventory is expected to be finalized in first-quarter 2024.
In March 2023, Tethys began performing an extended well test on the Al Jumd discovery in the northwestern corner of Block 56 (OGJ Online, Mar. 15, 2023). The objective of the test was to establish recoverable resources volumes and optimal production rates.
Tethys Oil is operator of Block 56 (65%) with partners Biyaq Oilfield Services (25%), Intaj LLC (5%), and Medco Arabia Ltd. (5%).
