Chevron to investigate area offshore Australia with new greenhouse gas assessment permit

Chevron Corp., through its subsidiary Chevron Australia New Ventures Pty Ltd., will assess the technical and commercial feasibility of geological storage of CO2 in a newly permitted area in the Northern Carnarvon basin offshore Western Australia.
The operator and its joint venture participants Shell Australia Pty Ltd. and Mobil Australia Resources Co. Pty Ltd. have recently been awarded the greenhouse gas assessment permit G-20-AP, which sits adjacent to Barrow Island and covers an area of 2,222 sq km in water depths of 25-125 m, Chevron said in a release Dec. 18.
