Equinor lets construction contract for Snøhvit Future project
Equinor Energy AS has let a construction contract to Leonhard Nilsen & Sønner (LNS) with a value of around NOK 1.5 billion for work related to the Snøhvit Future project in northern Norway.
LNS will build a tunnel and landfall for the power cable (132 kV) that will allow power from Statnett’s transformer substation at Hyggevatn to be transmitted to Hammerfest LNG on Melkøya. The project also includes sea filling and blasting during the day.
For the work, LNS will collaborate with Norway suppliers including Viggo Eriksen AS, Alta Anlegg AS, Jaro AS and Ofoten Mek AS.
The NOK 13.2-billion Snøhvit Future project includes onshore compression and electrification of Hammerfest LNG on Melkøya (OGJ Online, Aug. 8, 2023). Three large modules will be installed at the plant: a compressor, a substation, and electric steam boilers. Extensive modification work will also be carried out. Onshore gas compression will provide enough flow from the reservoir to extend plateau production and maintain high gas exports from HLNG beyond 2030, Equinor has said about the project, adding that electrification will reduce CO2 emissions from HLNG by around 850,000 tonnes/year.
LNS said it will begin construction of its works scope once necessary approvals and permits have been received.
Equinor is operator of the Snøhvit license with 36.79%. Partners are Petoro AS (30.00%), TotalEnergies EP Norge AS (18.40%), Neptune Energy Norge AS (12.00%), and Wintershall Dea Norge AS (2.81%).
