ADNOC Gas has let an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to Petrofac for its Habshan carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) project.
The contract, valued by the service provider at more than $600 million, involves delivery of carbon capture units, associated pipeline infrastructure, and a network of wells for CO2 recovery and injection.
The project, on which the operator took final investment decision in September, is sited at ADNOC’s Habshan gas processing plant 150 km southwest of Abu Dhabi and is part of ADNOC’s initial $15 billion decarbonization investment in low carbon solutions (OGJ Online, Sept. 6, 2023).
Habshan is expected to have capacity to capture and store 1.5 million tonnes/year (tpy) of CO2 within geological formations deep underground and will triple ADNOC’s carbon capture capacity to 2.3 million tpy, ADNOC has said.
