Eni SPA and Snam SPA will jointly develop and manage Phase 1 of the carbon capture and storage (CCS) project off the coast of Ravenna, Italy.

Phase 1 project covers capture of 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emitted from Eni's natural gas treatment plant in Casalborsetti (Ravenna). Once captured, the CO2 will be piped to the Porto Corsini Mare Ovest platform and injected into the homonymous depleted gas field in the Adriatic.

Phase 2, scheduled to start in 2027, aims to store 4 million tonnes/year of CO2 with about half of it from three power stations and a hydrogen plant owned by Eni and the rest from other emitters.

The joint development agreement also includes implementation of studies and preparatory activities for subsequent development phases.
