Neptune Energy to place offshore hydrogen pilot on platform
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has let a 3.6-million-euro subsidy for the PosHYdon offshore green hydrogen pilot project on the Q13a-A platform, 13 km off the coast of Scheveningen in 20 m of water.
The project aims to integrate offshore wind, offshore gas, and offshore hydrogen in the Dutch North Sea. It will oversee installation of a green hydrogen-producing plant on the platform. The plant will convert seawater into demineralized water, then into green hydrogen via electrolysis, which will be blended with natural gas and transported to shore via an existing pipeline.
PosHYdon is the world's first offshore hydrogen pilot on a working platform. The subsidy was awarded under the RVO’s demonstration energy and climate innovation (DEI+) scheme, which invites funding applications for investments in renewable energy developments, including hydrogen pilots.
PosHYdon is an initiative of Nexstep, the Dutch association for decommissioning and reuse, and TNO, the Netherlands organization for applied scientific research. Partners in the PosHYdon consortium include Nel Hydrogen, InVesta, Hatenboer, IV-Offshore & Energy, Emerson Automation Solutions, Neptune Energy, Gasunie, Noordgastransport, NOGAT, DEME Offshore, TAQA, and Eneco.
Neptune Energy holds 50% interest in Q13-A with partners Energie Beheer Nederland BV (40%) and TAQA Offshore BV (10%).
