TotalEnergies has started production from Fenix gas field offshore Argentina, 2 years after the operator make the final investment decision (OGJ Online, Sept. 19, 2022).
Fenix, which lies 60 km off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in southern Argentina, is part of the Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA-1) concession, which includes onshore fields and six offshore platforms.
With a production capacity of 10 million cu m/d (70,000 boe/d), the Fenix development consists of a new unmanned platform in 70 m water depth and connected to the existing CMA-1 infrastructure. Gas produced at Fenix is sent through a 35-km subsea pipeline to the TotalEnergies-operated Véga Pléyade platform and is subsequently treated onshore at the Río Cullen and Cañadon Alfa plants, which are also operated by TotalEnergies.
Leveraging existing infrastructure, carbon intensity at Fenix is estimated at 9 kg CO2e/boe.
“Fenix will contribute to maintaining our gas production plateau in Tierra del Fuego and ensure a reliable supply to the Argentinean gas market,” said Javier Rielo, senior vice-president Americas, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies.
Through its Total Austral affiliate, TotalEnergies is Argentina’s leading international gas producer, currently operating some 25% of production. The company is operator of the (CMA-1) concession with 37.5% interest. Parnters are Harbour Energy (37.5%) and Pan American Energy (25%). Elsewhere in the country, in Neuquen, TotalEnergies holds equity interests in five onshore blocks, spanning more than 235,000 net acres, all operated.
