Woodside achieves first oil at Sangomar, offshore Senegal
Woodside has achieved first oil from Sangomar field offshore Senegal, the country’s first offshore oil project. The drilling campaign is ongoing and Woodside expects to continue commissioning activities and ramping up production through 2024, the company said in a release.
The first phase of Sangomar field development, at a cost of US$4.9-5.2 billion, includes a stand-alone floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, the Léopold Sédar Senghor, moored about 100 km south of Dakar. The FPSO can process 100,000 b/d of crude oil and has water injection capacity of 145,000 b/d and storage capacity of 1.3 million bbl (OGJ Online, Jan. 2, 2024).
Phase 1 development includes 23 wells (11 production, 10 water injection, and 2 gas injection). Twenty-one of the 23 wells have been drilled and completed including 9 production wells. The joint venture has also approved a 24th well (production) that will be completed in the current campaign. Development includes subsea infrastructure designed to allow subsequent development phases.
The Sangomar project is being progressed by the Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore and Sangomar Deep Offshore joint venture, comprising Woodside (operator, 82%) and Societé des Petroles du Sénégal (Petrosen) (18%).
Crude quality is expected to be 31 degrees API which is in demand in European and Asian markets.
