CNOOC started production at the Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield Development Project (Phase I) in central Bohai Bay.

CNOOC Ltd. started production at the Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield Development Project (Phase I) in central Bohai Bay in about 20 m of water.

A total of 33 development wells are planned to be commissioned, including 22 production wells, ten gas injection wells and one water source well. The project is expected to achieve peak production of about 22,300 boe in 2025. The oil is light crude.

Main Bozhong production infrastructure includes a new central processing platform and an unmanned wellhead platform.

As one of CNOOC’s demonstration CCUS projects in Bohai, the project captures and separates associated carbon dioxide from crude oil and reinjects it back into the formation to drive oil production. The project is expected to sequester about 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide throughout its life cycle.

Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield is the world’s largest metamorphic buried hill oilfield with
cumulative proven oil and gas in-place of over 200 million cubic meters (OGJ Online, Mar. 1, 2023).

CNOOC is operator and holds 100% interest in the project.
