Aker BP becomes Oda field operator ahead of Ula area decommissioning
Aker BP on Feb. 1 took over operatorship of Oda field in the North Sea from Sval Energi.
“By transferring the operatorship to Aker BP, Oda will become an integrated part of the optimization of late-phase operations, as well as the planning and execution of the decommissioning and removal of infrastructure in the Ula area. This will provide both technical and economic synergies in the operational and decommissioning phases,” said Talar Arif, director of Ula area, Aker BP.
Oda lies in 65 m of water in the southern part of the Norwegian sector of the North Sea 14 km east of Aker BP-operated Ula field.
Discovered in 2011 via well 8/10-4S, Oda’s main reservoir contains oil in sandstone of Late Jurassic age in the Ula formation. The reservoir, 2,900 m subsea, is steeply dipping and quality is good. Production from Oda started in 2019 (OGJ Online, Mar. 19, 2019).
The field has been developed a subsea template with two production wells and one injection well tied to Ula.
Also a late-phase operation, Aker BP plans to produce from Ula until latest 2028, when the field’s production license expires. Removal of installations at Ula field is expected in the years following 2028. The tie-in fields will also stop production with Ula’s decommissioning.
Partners in Oda are Sval Energi (70%), DNO Norge (15%), and Aker BP (15%). The ownership shares in the Oda license 405 are not affected by the transfer of operatorship to Aker BP.
