ConocoPhillips Alaska has achieved first oil from the Nuna drillsite 3T in the Kuparuk River Unit on Alaska’s North Slope.

ConocoPhillips Alaska has achieved first oil from the Nuna drillsite 3T in the Kuparuk River Unit (KRU) on Alaska’s North Slope.

The project is the 49th drillsite developed within the KRU and is the first drillsite developed in the Greater Kuparuk Area in nearly a decade, the operator said in a release Dec. 19.

The Greater Kuparuk Area includes the KRU, North America’s second largest oil field, about 40 miles west of Prudhoe Bay, which encompasses Kuparuk field and six nearby satellite fields.

The Nuna project will add 29 development wells, on-pad infrastructure, and pipelines that tie back to existing KRU processing infrastructure. Drilling at 3T began in September and is expected to continue for the next few years, ConocoPhillips said.

Year-to-date, ConocoPhillips Alaska has invested over $2 billion in its Alaska projects and said it intends to spend about $1 billion/year to grow its Alaska legacy business.
