Valeura Energy suspended production at Wassana field offshore Gulf of Thailand after a crack was found within a leg of the mobile offshore production unit.

Valeura Energy Inc. has suspended production at Wassana field in the G10/48 concession offshore Gulf of Thailand after a crack was found within one of the mobile offshore production unit’s (MOPU) steel jack up legs during a scheduled underwater inspection.

The operator believes such an anomaly could potentially pose a risk to the structural integrity of the Ingenium MOPU. Further inspection and analysis will be carried out. Valeura is working with a team of internal and external experts to define the optimal course of action and expects to provide an update in its second-quarter 2024 operations update.

There has been no incident related to the finding and no adverse impact to people or the environment, the company said.

Wassana oil field is a collection of crude oil-bearing sandstone reservoir intervals of Miocene age. The field is estimated to contain 2P reserves of 6.1 million bbl of oil as of Dec. 31, 2022 (OGJ Online, Dec. 11, 2023).

Valeura holds 100% operated interest in the license.
