Petrobras starts phase five production at Búzios field
Petrobras started production from its fifth phase of Búzios oil field development in Santos basin offshore Brazil, according to a June 2 release by partner CNOOC Ltd.
The Búzios 5 project is being developed through the Almirante Barroso floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The FPSO has capacity to produce up to 150,000 bbl/d of oil and 6 million cu m/d of gas and inject 220,000 b/d of water. Able to store 1.4 million bbl of crude oil, the vessel was converted in China in July 2022 and arrived at the field in February 2023.
Five producing wells and five injector wells have been drilled and connected, CNOOC said.
Búzios lies in 1,900-2,200 m of water and is the largest deep water presalt oil field in the world with a daily production of about 600,000 bbl.
Petrobras is operator at Búzios (88.99%). Partners are CNOOC Petroleum Brasil Ltda , a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC (7.34%), and CNODC Brasil Petróleo e Gás Ltda (3.67%) (OGJ Online, Sept. 30, 2021).
