Karoon Energy Ltd. shut-in Baúna production, including from Patola field offshore Brazil, on Mar. 28 due to a loss of containment with the high-pressure flare on the FPSO Cidade de Itajaí, the company said in a release Apr. 3.

The FPSO operator, Altera&Ocyan (A&O), mobilized a team to identify the source of the leak and undertake repairs, which were completed Mar. 30. However, due to higher-than-expected flow rates from Patola wells and associated pressure placed on the FPSO processing system, Karoon and A&O have extend the shutdown to undertake a full inspection and testing of associated systems, and to bring forward some of the planned July maintenance program.

Inspection and accelerated maintenance work is expected to be completed by mid-April, allowing production to restart. Karoon's 2023 production guidance remains unchanged despite the current shutdown due to higher than anticipated production rates seen from both the intervention program and from Patola (OGJ Online, Mar. 29, 2023).

Patola lies in 280 m of water and has proven and probable (2P) reserves of 16.4 million bbl.
