Johan Sverdrup field Phase 1 will reach plateau production at a higher rate and ahead of schedule, said Equinor.

Johan Sverdrup field Phase 1 will reach plateau production at a higher rate and ahead of schedule, said Equinor.

Field production has been stable from day one, and the wells have produced better than expected, said Rune Nedregaard, vice president for Johan Sverdrup operations, allowing for expected peak production in May as compared to its previous summer estimate. The company is currently completing the tenth well and an increase in plant capacity is expected, allowing plateau production to increase to 470,000 b/d from 440,000 b/d, he said.

The field came on stream Oct. 5, 2019, more than 2 months ahead of schedule and 40 billion kroner below the original development and operation estimate (OGJ Online, Oct. 7, 2019). Break-even for full-field development is below $20/bbl, and expected operating costs are below $2/bbl.

Phase 2 plateau production is anticipated at 690,000 b/d with expected recoverable reserves of 2.7 billion boe. Recovery factor is estimated in excess of 70%.

Equinor is operator of Johan Sverdrup with 42.6%. Partners are Lundin Norway 20%, Petoro 17.36%, Aker BP 11.5733%, and Total 8.44%.
