Aker BP ASA completed drilling wildcat well 6507/2-8 on the Kongeørn prospect in production license (PL) 942 in the Norwegian Sea, 240 km west of Sandnessjøen. The well is classified as dry and has been plugged.

The well, the second in the license, was drilled by the Deepsea Nordkapp drilling rig in 400 m of water to a vertical depth of 4,255 m subsea on the Dønna Terrace, 4.2 km southwest of Marulk discovery well 6507/2-2. The well was terminated in the Åre formation in the Lower Jurassic.

The primary exploration target was to prove gas in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Garn formation. The secondary exploration target was to prove gas in Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Tilje formation.

The well encountered the Garn formation with a total thickness of 33 m, of which 24.2 m was sandstone layers with poor reservoir quality. The Tilje formation had a total thickness of 45.1 m, with sandstone layers totaling 16.2 m with poor reservoir quality.

Aker BP is operator at PL 942 (30%) with partners ORLEN Upstream Norway AS (40%) and Equinor Energy AS (30%).
