Empire Energy spuds Carpentaria pilot well
Empire Energy Group Ltd. has spudded the Carpentaria-5H (C-5H) in EP187 in Beetaloo basin, Australia.
The well will be Empire’s first full-scale pilot development well and will form part of the Carpentaria Pilot Project. C-5H will incorporate learning from the four wells that have previously been drilled in EP187.
The well design includes a larger well bore diameter targeting a 3,000 m drilled and cased horizontal section. The larger well bore diameter will allow for increased stimulation horsepower and proppant concentration with a goal of producing higher gas flow rates than in previous wells, the company said.
The well is being drilled by the Ensign Rig #965 (OGJ Online, Sept. 10, 2024). Drilling and casing are expected to take about 45 days. After rig release C-5H will be hydraulically stimulated.
The Carpentaria Gas Plant installation is planned for 2025 to sell gas from EP187.
