TotalEnergies resumes offshore Namibia exploration
TotalEnergies resumed exploration drilling on Block 2913B with the spudding of the Tamboti-1X exploration well offshore Namibia, said partner Westmount Energy Ltd. in a Nov. 4 release.
The well is being drilled using the DeepSea Mira rig north of the Venus accumulation and close to the Mangetti-1X discovery. The Venus light oil accumulation has been successfully appraised by drilling and testing Venus-1X ST, Venus-1A, Venus-2A and Mangetti-1X appraisal wells. As a result, planning is currently progressing for the first development area, with a Phase 1 development scheme expected to be finalized by the end of 2025.
Two 3D seismic acquisition programs started in 2024 covering the Block 2913B and Block 2912 licensed areas have been completed, and now most of the licenses have been covered by 3D seismic.
Block 2913B lies in water depths of 2,500-3,250 m, adjacent to the South Africa maritime boundary. The license lies within the Orange River basin, shared between both Namibia and South Africa. Block 2913B covers about 8,215 sq km. Block 2912 is an ultra-deep-water block spanning about 7,933 sq km immediately west of Block 2913B, also within Orange basin (OGJ Online, Aug. 27, 2024).
TotalEnergies is operator of both blocks.
