Energean starts drilling offshore Morocco

Aug. 20, 2024
Energean began drilling operations with the arrival of the drillship on location offshore Morocco.

Energean PLC began drilling operations on the Anchois East well (Anchois-3) at the Anchois gas project at the Lixus license offshore Morocco, partner Chariot Ltd. said in an Aug. 20 release.

With the Stena Forth drillship now on location, drilling and flow testing operations are expected to take about 2 months (OGJ Online, Apr. 10, 2024).

Anchois-3 is a multi-objective well with distinct operational phases. An initial pilot hole will be drilled with the main objective to evaluate the potential of the Anchois Footwall prospect in an undrilled fault block to the east of the main field, which has a 2U prospective resource estimate of 170 bcf in the main O Sand target.

A sidetrack will then be drilled to intersect and further evaluate the discovered gas sands in the eastern part of the main fault block of the field with a current 2C contingent resource estimate of 637 bcf.

The deeper Anchois North Flank prospect, with an additional 2U prospective resource estimate of 213 bcf, will then be drilled. The work could de-risk the nearby Anchois South Flank prospect, currently estimated to hold 2U prospective resource of 372 bcf.

Well flow testing will be performed on selected encountered gas sands to evaluate reservoir and well productivity and the well will be suspended as a potential future producer.

Energean is operator of the license with 45% interest. Partners are Chariot (30%) and ONHYM (25%).
