Gran Tierra verifies Ecuador sandstone
Gran Tierra Energy Inc. has verified the structure of an Ecuadorian sandstone with a successful flow test of the Bocachico Norte-J1 well.
The operator ran production casing, cemented, and perforated the T-Sand oil zone and has begun production testing. The T-Sand was perforated over 20 ft of reservoir with 29 ft of reservoir pay based on log evaluation. A jet pump was run and the well has produced at stabilized rates over 51 hours at 1,353 bo/d, 35.5° API gravity oil, less than 1% water cut, and a gas-oil ratio of 336 scf/stock tank bbl.
This test verifies the Bocachico structure potential in the T-Sandstone and builds confidence in the multizone potential of the Zabaleta well (Basal Tena/U-Sand/T-Sand) which is expected to be drilled in second-half 2024, 200 ft updip from the recent Arawana-J1 discovery well (OGJ Online, May 28, 2024).
The Arawana well continues to produce with strong results from the Basal Tena zone greater than 900 bo/d. The artificial lift system will be converted from a jet pump to electrical submersible pump in third quarter 2024. Cumulative production to date from Arawana is about 74,000 bbl.
Bocachico Norte-J1 is the fourth consecutive oil discovery in Ecuador.
Gran Tierra is 100% owner and operator of wells Arawana-J1, Bocachico Norte-J1, Zabaleta-K1, Zabaleta Oeste-K, and Charapa block.
