NPD grants Faroe Petroleum drilling permit in North Sea

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Faroe Petroleum Norge AS a drilling permit for well 30/6-30 in the North Sea. The well will be drilled by Transocean Offshore International Ventures Ltd.’s Transocean Arctic semisubmersible drilling rig after concluding the drilling of wildcat well 35/11-21 A for Wellesley Petroleum AS in production license 248 I.

The well, to be drilled about 7 km north of the Oseberg field, is the first to be drilled in Runge PL825, which lies between Oseberg Ost and Huldra fields within the eastern part of the Rungne subbasin in the Viking Graben.

The target is a rotated-tilted fault block with Lower Jurassic Brent Group reservoirs that sits immediately up dip from well 30/6-11, which encountered oil shows and a potential live column, according to Faroe Petroleum’s web site.

Faroe Petroleum Norge is the operator with 40% interest. Partners are Lundin Norway AS 30% and Spirit Energy Norge AS 30%.

The area in this license consists of the northern part of Block 30/6 and the southern part of Block 30/3.
