Sinopec begins drilling Asia’s deepest well
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) started drilling the deepest well in Asia in Tarim basin, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the operator said in a release last week.
Well Project Deep Earth 1-Yuejin 3-3XC is in Shaya County, Aksu Prefecture, by the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. It has a designed depth of 9,472 m and a horizontal distance of 3,400 m.
Sinopec completed stratigraphic sealing of the upper 1,500 m within 5 days. Drilling is estimated to reach the carboniferous strata in 21 days.
Shunbei oil and gas field of the Shendi-1 Project has 49 oil and gas wells that are deeper than 8,000 m.
