The weekly rig count increased in the US and dipped slightly in Canada, according to Baker Hughes.
There were 587 rotary rigs working in the US and its waters compared with 613 for the comparable period a year ago.
Of the rigs working in the US and its waters this week, 483 were drilling for oil, 2 more than last week; 99 were drilling for gas, up 1 from last week; and 5 were unclassified. There were 571 rigs on land; 3 in inland waters, and 13 offshore.
The count in Oklahoma rose 2 from last week to 55. The rig count in California rose 1 unit to 6 rigs running this week.
Utah dropped a single unit to end the week with 11 rigs working.
In Canada, the rig count decreased by 6 to 128. A year ago, Canada's count was 118.
