The weekly rotary rig count increased by 2 the US and fell by 4 in Canada, said Baker Hughes.
This week there were 585 rotary rigs working in the US and its waters and 134 working in Canada. A year ago, the numbers were 619 and 127, respectively.
Of the rigs working in the US and its waters this week, 481 were drilling for oil and 98 were drilling for gas. There were 569 rigs on land, 3 in inland waters, and 13 offshore.
Of the major US producing states, Pennsylvania and Ohio saw increases. With 18 and 12 rigs running respectively, each state gained 2 rigs this week. West Virginia and California each dropped a single rig to end the week with 8 and 5 rigs running, respectively.
In Canada, 87 rigs were drilling for oil, down 4 from last week. Rigs drilling for gas in Canada increased were unchanged at 47.
