Baker Hughes: Canada drops 17 rigs for the week

Canada has 17 fewer rigs drilling for the week ended Mar. 28, according to Baker Hughes data. Despite the drop, at 163 rigs running, the count is 12 more than the year-ago level. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada decreased by 10, bringing the count to 108 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs down 7 units to 54.

The US drilling rig count, meanwhile, fell by a single unit to 592 rigs working for the week. The count is down 29 units from the 621rigs working during the same time in 2024. 

At 575 rigs working, one fewer unit was drilling on US land week-over-week. The number of offshore units was unchanged at 14. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters also was unchanged at 3 rigs working for the week.

US oil-directed rigs dropped 2 units from last week to 484 units working, down from the 506 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were up by a single unit to 103, and down 9 from the 112 units drilling for gas a year ago.

Only one major oil and gas-producing state, Ohio, saw an increase in rigs this week. With a single-unit gain, the state had 10 units running.

Two states dropped one rig each this week, namely New Mexico, 101; and Pennsylvania, 14.
