Canada dropped 35 rigs for the week ended Mar. 14, according to Baker Hughes data. With 199 rigs running, the count is 8 fewer than the 207 units drilling this week a year ago. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada fell by 31, bringing the count to 139 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs were down 4 to 60 units.
In the US, 592 rigs are working for the week, unchanged from a week ago. The count is down 37 units from the 629 rigs working this time a year ago.
At 576 rigs working, the number of rigs drilling on land is unchanged from the week prior. Offshore units also unchanged for the week with 14 rigs running. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters is unchanged at 2.
US oil-directed rigs increased by 1 unit from last week to 487 units working. The count is down 23 rigs from a year ago. Gas-directed rigs are down 1 unit to 100, and down from the 116 units drilling for gas a year ago.
Among the major oil and gas-producing states, only Oklahoma saw an increase in rigs. With 51 rigs working for the week, the count is up 2 from last week.
New Mexico dropped 3 units to reach 102.
