US drilling activity was down slightly this week with a 3-unit decrease to reach 617 rotary rigs working. Last year at this time, 751 rigs were working. In the US this week, 506 rigs were drilling for oil, down 2 from last week. There were 109 rigs drilling for gas, down 1 unit from last week.
Operations offshore declined slightly with a single unit drop to leave 19 rigs working for the week. Drilling in inland waters was unchanged this week at 0 units. Two fewer rigs were drilling on land to bring the total to 598.
Texas dropped 3 rigs to reach 294 units running this week. New Mexico increased its rig count by a single unit to hit 109 rigs running.
