Production has been stopped at Syncrude Canada Ltd.’s Mildred Lake oil sands complex near Fort McMurray, Alta., because of a June 20 power outage that shut down all processing units, a spokesperson for the joint venture partners said.
Synthetic crude shipments are stopped pending a full investigation into the cause of the outage. Preliminary investigation results indicate that the cause of the disruption was a transformer trip.
Syncrude is conducting a comprehensive assessment that will include a return-to-service plan.
The site normally can produce up to 350,000 b/d. Suncor Energy Inc. has 58.74% interest. Other partners are Imperial Oil Resources 25%, Sinopec Oil Sands Partnership 9.03%, and Nexen Oil Sands Partnership 7.23%.
