Ithaca Energy (UK) Ltd. has let a 2-year E&P contract to WorleyParsons Ltd. for Stage 2 of the Captain EOR project in the UK North Sea.

Ithaca Energy (UK) Ltd. has let a 2-year engineering and procurement (E&P) contract to WorleyParsons Ltd. (Worley) for Stage 2 of the Captain enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project in the UK North Sea.

Ithaca Energy sanctioned the Captain field EOR Stage 2 project after receiving field development plan addendum consent from the Oil and Gas Authority (OGJ Online Apr. 8, 2021).

Worley will complete engineering design and procurement of equipment packages to enable increased oil recovery and extend production of the field. Front-end engineering and design for Stage 2 was completed last year after successful execution of Stage 1. Work will be led by Worley’s Aberdeen office and supported by its global integrated delivery team in Hyderabad, India.

EOR Stage 2 is designed to increase hydrocarbon recovery by injecting polymerized water into the reservoir through additional subsea wells, subsea infrastructure, and new topsides. Stage 1 demonstrated that polymer EOR technology works, with production response in line with or better than expected across all injection patterns, Ithaca said.

Captain is in Block 13/22a on the edge of the outer Moray Firth in 346 ft of water. The field includes a wellhead protector platform and bridge linked platform connected to a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel.

Ithaca Energy is operator of Captain (85%) with partner Dana Petroleum PLC (15%).
