TotalEnergies has started production from Akpo West field offshore Nigeria. By mid-2024, the field is expected to add 14,000 b/d of condensate production.

TotalEnergies has started production from Akpo West field on the PML2 license in Nigeria. By mid-2024, the field is expected to add 14,000 b/d of condensate production, to be followed by up to 4 MMcmd of gas by 2028, the company said in a release Feb. 7.

The field, 135 km off the coast, is tied back to the existing Akpo floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which started-up in 2009 and produced 124,000 boe/d in 2023.

The Akpo West development leverages the existing Akpo infrastructure to keep costs low and minimize greenhouse gas emissions, the company said. The operator expects the project’s carbon intensity to be below 5 kg CO2e/boe.

TotalEnergies is operator of PML2 with a 24% interest, in partnership with CNOOC (45%), Sapetro (15%), Prime 130 (16%), and the Nigerian National Petroleum Co. Ltd. Ltd as concessionaire of the production sharing contract.
