Perenco Rio del Rey, a Perenco Cameroon subsidiary, has started a five-well development drilling campaign on Kita Eden field, in the northern section of the Rio del Rey basin, offshore Cameroon.
Because of the challenging shallow waters (4 m) and strong currents, no drilling has taken place in the field since 1984, the company said in a release Feb. 29. Perenco and its services subsidiary, Dixstone, designed and built a shallow water barge specifically for the campaign. The barge will complement Dixstone’s LUG platform, which over the past 5 years has delivered more than 16 million bbl of oil in Cameroon, the company said.
The drilling campaign is part of a 20-year license agreement signed in 2023 by Perenco with the Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures and Addax Petroleum Cameroon (OGJ Online, June 12, 2023).
