Borealis AG, Vienna, has let a contract to Honeywell UOP LLC, a subsidiary of Honeywell International Inc., to provide process technology for a proposed propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in Kallo, Belgium.
Alongside licensing of its proprietary C3 Oleflex technology, Honeywell UOP also will provide basic engineering design as well as services, equipment, catalysts, and adsorbents for the new plant that, once completed, will produce a targeted 740,000 tonnes/year of on-purpose, polymer-grade propylene, Honeywell UOP said.
With a feasibility study for the Kallo plant now under way, Borealis plans to reach final investment decision during third-quarter 2018, according to the service provider.
If approved, the PDH plant—which would become the largest C3 Oleflex unit in Europe—is tentatively scheduled for startup during second-half 2021.
A value of the contract was not disclosed.
