This story was updated on June 17 to specify Edam West is a steam assisted gravity drainage project.
Husky Energy Inc., Calgary, has started steam operations at the 4,500-b/d Edam West steam assisted gravity drainage project in Saskatchewan, marking its third thermal project to be brought online this year.
The 10,000-b/d Edam East thermal project, where output began in April (OGJ Online, Apr. 18, 2016), is now producing above its design rate at 11,000 b/d. At the 10,000-b/d Vawn development, production started 6 weeks after steaming began.
Husky also noted that output is now 22,000 b/d at the Tucker thermal project near Cold Lake, Alta. Combined production from Lloyd thermals and Tucker is now 85,000 b/d, and is expected to exceed 100,000 b/d in the second half.
