Alliance Pipeline shuts down mainline system

Alliance Pipeline LP of Calgary said it shut down its 1.6-bcfd mainline system in Western Canada late Aug. 6 because of a release of hydrogen sulfide into the system stemming from what Alliance called “complications experienced by an upstream operator.”

The 2,300-mile gas pipeline carries Canadian gas to US Midwest markets. Alliance said it did not know how long the shutdown might last, and it provided no more specifics immediately although the company planned to routinely issue updates.

“There is no risk to human health, and no environmental impacts are expected,” said Alliance, which is a limited partnership owned by units of Enbridge Income Fund Holdings and Veresen Inc.

Seven Generations of Calgary said it shut in 55,000 boe/d as a result of the pipeline shutdown. Seven Generations said that was all of its production, and it would do maintenance during this time.
