Suncor begins planned maintenance at Alberta refinery
Suncor Energy Inc. has started planned maintenance at its 142,000-b/d refinery in Edmonton, Alta.
The maintenance work is part of the refinery’s ongoing program designed to support safe, reliable operations at the plant, Suncor said in an Apr. 7 release.
The scheduled maintenance will last about 8 weeks and will involve 1,400 employees and contractors, the company said.
Although the planned maintenance may result in an increase in flaring, noise, and traffic, the company said it has taken necessary precautions to ensure these disruptions are kept to a minimum.
While refinery throughputs and utilization will be impacted at an undisclosed rate during the maintenance period, Suncor said it has made the necessary arrangements to ensure sufficient finished products are available and expects all customer supply agreements will be met.
