Lundin has gas find offshore Peninsular Malaysia

Lundin Petroleum AB, Stockholm, has a potentially commercial gas discovery on an unexplored part of the PM307 block offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

Lundin as operator drilled the Tembakau-1 well to 1,565 m in 67 m of water where it discovered a series of stacked gas pay sands in the target Miocene objective. The well penetrated a combined 60 m of net gas pay in five high-quality sand intervals.

An extensive data acquisition program included rock and fluid samples, pressure profiles, and minidrillstem tests before the well was plugged. Lundin will work to estimate a recoverable resource range.

Lundin expressed encouragement that Tembakau may be commercial as a stand-alone development given its proximity to infrastructure 30 km east. Lundin shot a large 3D survey in 2011 and sees further potential in the area.

Lundin Malaysia BV has 75% interest in PM307, and Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. has 25%.

The fifth and last well in the 2012 exploratory campaign, Ara-1 on the PM308A block, is to spud shortly. Lundin is operator with 35% interest.
