HOUSTON, Nov. 18 -- Petroleos de Venezuela SA awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, management contract to Technip for developing the Mariscal Sucre Dragon and Patao gas fields off Venezuala.
The fields are about 25 miles north of the Paria peninsula in 328-427 ft of water and will be the first offshore gas fields developed off Venezuela, according to Technip.
The contract covers project management and construction management for the Dragon platform and subsea system fabrication, transportation, and installation, and detail engineering for the platform and subsea tieback to the Dragon field.
The Dragon platform will be in about 427 ft of water.
Technip's North America's engineering center and its Venezuela affiliate, Estudios y Projectos Ditech SA, will execute the contract.
Mariscal Sucre includes four gas fields: Dragon, Patao, Mejillones, and Rio Caribe.
Early this year an Indian semisubmersible drilling rig sank while drilling on the Dragon field (OGJ, May 17, 2010, Newsletter).
